Spring welcome from our President

2024-05-07

Welcome to what is going to be another amazing year with the Ottawa West Little League. You may have noticed that we are even bigger this year (20% bigger in fact), so more teams and players are playing at every level of our house and interlock programs.

At this point, hopefully, all players have made it onto the field with their team for a practice or their first game. We know, however, that it has not been a smooth entry into our spring season like we want it to be. Over half of our fields were not opened from the city as we expected them to on the first of May. We are so lucky to have such amazing volunteers and coaches that have been working hard to adjust schedules, make new field allocations work, and get you all into the season. We sincerely thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we juggle these circumstances and as we wait for our last 3 diamonds to be opened.

In case you missed it, here are some important pieces of information:
1) Our Fan Wear Merchandise store is open until tomorrow (May 8th) so order your socks, t-shirts, hoodies, baseball bags, and caps before they are gone. You won't see our store again until the late fall.

2) If you are interested in our all star or summer A (Canadian) teams please make sure you have signed up for try-outs (I know the spring has only just started but things move fast!) - please fill out our sign-up form Our summer B (national) sort outs will be later in the season so worry not.

3) If you are wondering how you can help the league but are not coaching a team? We have lots of roles that you can do when you get to the diamond with your player - raking and prepping fields is a huge one and we rely on every team to help us maintain our diamonds. Have a little more time and would like to join our executive or find out more about helping out the whole league - please reach out via email to president@owll.ca. We are growing and need all of your help!

4) Coaches and parents, if you notice anything that is broken or damaged at our facilities like pitching rubbers or home plates, fencing pulled out or dangerous, debris, etc... please reach out to me so I can let the city know (a picture with it is even more helpful). The city is attempting to monitor their infrastructure upkeep more closely, and are asking everything to come through one email for the league.

If you are new to the league, a big welcome, and if you are a returning player family it is wonderful to see you back.

Happy spring baseball everyone.
