In addition to the common rules, these rules apply to minor B:
- Players pitch from 40’ with bases being 60’ apart.
- There are no walks in minor B. After the fourth ball is thrown by the player pitcher, coach pitch is triggered. Please note the count does NOT carry over. The player gets 3 coach pitches. If they foul off the third pitch they get one additional pitch. If they foul off the fourth pitch, the batter is out.
- Only the player at bat can hold a bat. Players that are “on deck” and “in the hole” cannot take practice swings or even touch a bat. This is to prevent injuries.
- There is no bunting, players must make only swings while attempting to hit a pitched ball.
- Runners can only advance while on the bases on batted balls, passed pitched balls, or wild pitches. “Straight steals” where a catcher catches a pitched ball or the pitched ball settles in the immediate vicinity of the catcher in his/her position at the time of the pitch is prohibited.*
- *However, players CANNOT advance to home plate (i.e. steal home) on a passed ball/wild pitch. They must stay at third until the ball is hit by the batter.
- Maximum 5 runs per inning.
- The Infield Fly Rule is NOT in effect in minor B.
- There are no illegal pitches in minor B.
- Runners must wait until the pitched ball reaches the plate before breaking contact with their base (leading-off). If they lead-off and try to advance on a passed ball or wild pitch, the base umpire will wait for the play to be over, call time, and tell the runner to return to their last occupied base. If they lead-off and a ball is hit, apply penalties as per Rule 7.13(b).
