Each division will have a designated convenor. The role of convenor is an important one for the proper functioning of our spring and summer seasons. Though the duties listed below may seem long, the convenor has the full backing and support of the Executive who will assist where necessary. In summary, the convenor’s job is to ensure the on-field operation of the specific division functions in a manner consistent with OWLL goals and philosophy. At the outset of the year, the convenor’s main job is to run the team assignment process in conjunction with a member of the executive committee. Once teams are selected, the convenor ensures coaches receive all the tools and resources available to them.

 

Duties

  • Manages the division within the spirit, rules, and regulations of Little League Baseball. Ensures the league operates in a manner consistent with guidelines.
  • Ensures decisions of the executive and VP baseball operations are carried out as required.
  • Resolves division-specific issues where possible and escalates issues to the attention of the VP baseball operations where necessary. Reports all league issues to the VP baseball operations.
  • Participates in the spring registration and player evaluation process.
  • Identifies potential summer competitive team managers/coaches. Informs VP coach and player development of suitable coaches and/or individuals interested in coaching the summer teams.
  • Ensures managers/coaches are prepared for the commencement of the season. Ensures each coach has schedules, house league rules, equipment, uniforms, team lists prior to the commencement of each season. Attends and ensures division coaches attend coaches’ meeting prior to commencement of season.
  • Runs spring player distribution process (team assignments) in a manner consistent with policies to ensure balancing of spring teams.
  • Ensures coaches maintain division scores and standings using the website. Ensures all rain-out games are played prior to the end of the regular season.
  • Ensures that managers/coaches are acting within the spirit, rules and regulations of Little League Baseball. This will require attendance at games to observe teams and attendance at baseball operations meetings.
  • Assists in the organization of league events as required (e.g., tournaments)
  • Assists in organizing summer ball try-outs as required.
  • Works with the executive to plan and run spring season playoffs.
  • Provides a year-end evaluation to the executive which will be used as part of the league planning process.
