Spring registration FAQs (Ottawa West Little League)

PrintSpring registration FAQs

Please visit our Spring Registration webpage to register.

Q. I don't know what league I belong to?
A. You can search which Little League you should register with by using the Little League League Finder or you can view our boundary map/description.

Q. I live outside the booundaries, but my child goes to school in boundary.  Can they play with OWLL?
A. To be eligible to register for LL with OWLL, the player must live or go to school within our boundaries. If you do not live within our boundaries but your school is located within our boundaries, you must complete a School Enrollment form which must be signed by a school administrator.  Please reach out to our Registrar if you have questions.  Spaces are first come first served.

Q. What division will my child play in?
A. The level of play is determined by your child's Little League age as determined by the Little League Age Chart.

Q. When does Spring registration open?
A. 2025 spring registration will open in early February 20205 and run until late March/early April, though many divisions will start to fill up in early March. Once a division is full, a wait list will be available but we cannot guarantee a place for all players on the wait list(s).

Q. What is GOBL?
A. GOBL is the Greater Ottawa area Baseball League. It was formed in 2017 when Little League formally eliminated the Big League age group. Little Leagues in Ottawa wanted to have a place for youth aged 17 to 19 to be able to continue to play baseball with their peers. As a result, GOBL was born. GOBL is a city wide interlock baseball league based on the 2016 Little League Big League Rules (19U/GOBL Interlock Rules). GOBL is a wood bat baseball league for players aged 17, 18 and 19 as of August 31st of the current year. OWLL will field a team if they have enough committed players. If OWLL does not run a team, players are welcome to join other teams as Little League boundaries are not enforced in GOBL.

Q. What is Rowan's Law and why do I have to acknowledge it?
A. Rowan's Law is an Ontario Law that requires all coaches and team trainers to review their sport organization's Concussion COde of Conduct each year before the start of the season. The code sets out expectations and rules of behaviour to minimize concussions while playing sport. The Law requires all sports organizations to ensure that athletes under 26 years of age, parents of athletes under 18, coaches, team trainers and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario's Concussoin Awareness Resources. For more information, please visit our Safety Information webpage.

Q. When are spring sort-outs?
A. The spring sort-out schedule will be set in late March / early April. Players will be notified and the schedule will be shared on the website.  For more information on the sort-out process, see the Sort-out Process.

Q. My children are playing in the same division this year.  Do I have to request that they will be placed on the same team? Different teams?
A. Siblings will always be placed on the same team unless otherwise requested (this applies to ALL levels).  However, if the siblings do not evaluate to the same tier, the higher tier sibling will be moved to the lower tier as it would be unsafe to place a lower tiered player in the higher tier. If time allows, the parents of the players will be contacted to ask if they would like to have their children play on different teams to allow each to play in the tier in which they evaluated. Once again, player swaps are made to maintain a comparable overall team evaluation totals.

Q. Are friend requests allowed?

A.The convenor will record all the friend requests, highlighting the reciprocal requests. Only reciprocal requests will be honoured. If the players in a reciprocal friend request have evaluated to the same tier, then swaps are made between teams so that team balance is maintained. If the players in the reciprocal friend request did not evaluate to the same tier, the friend request will not be honoured as we will not move players up or down based on a friend requests. **NOTE that friend requests may not be honoured at all divisions (often not possible at junior and above) or in all programs (IE summer is usually a smaller program, so the focus is on balanced teams).

Q. How does the T-shirt sizing work?
A. We ask players to provide their T-Shirt size as part of our online registration for ordering purposes. Spring T-ball and Rookie t-shirts are ordered ahead of the start of the season, so your player may not get the exact size you requested, but we try to match as closely as possible. After Rookie, OWLL provides league owned jerseys to players. Every child should feel good about themselves, so we want to make sure every player has a jersey that fits them comfortably. If your child is smaller or larger than the average, you should reach out to the league well ahead of the start of the season so that we can accommodate any special sizing requests before jersey distribution. We often have additional jerseys or t-shirts but we do not have all sizes in all sets, if we know in advance, we can make sure the jerseys assigned to your players team has a jersey that will fit.
Here is the general sizing chart for the company we use for our t-shirts and dry-fits: https://media.sanmarcanada.com/pdfs/ATC_ATC1000Y.pdf

Q. What equipment will my child need?
A. Please visit our Uniforms and equipment page for more information.

Q. How can I help?
A. OWLL is always looking for volunteers! If you are interested in coaching, please sign-up via our Coach Registration webpage or contact our VP of Coach and Player Development. If you want to help out but coaching isn't your thing, please contact our registrar.

Q. What nights will my child play?
A. Nights of play depend on the division your child is participating in as well as field availability and practices scheduled by your coach. Below is a table which outlines the planned game nights for each division, practices are at the discretion of the coach. This information is subject to change.
